Stone Temple Pilots were an American rock band from San Diego, California, that originally consisted of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), Brothers Dean (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums). The band found success with their debut album, Core, which included the hit singles “Sex Type Thing” and “Plush”. The band went on to release four more studio albums: Purple (1994), Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop (1996), No. 4 (1999), and Shangri-La Dee Da (2001). They also released a live album, Live in China (2001). The band’s final album, self-titled Stone Temple Pilots, was released on May 25, 2010.

On December 3, 2015, after a long period of tension between the band members, Weiland was fired from the band. Weiland died on December 3, 2015. The cause of his death, as well as the circumstances surrounding it, are still unknown.

On February 27, 2018, it was announced that the Stone Temple Pilots would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
