This HD transfer does an excellent job justice; every frame is crystal clear without any noticeable artefacts or defects (something that can’t be said for all anime releases on Blu-ray). Combined with strong colours and detailed backgrounds – not to mention some spectacular action sequences – it all makes for an incredibly immersive experience.
My favourite thing about this release though is easily all the extra features included on disc 2 (which clocks in at over 3 hours!). There’s everything here from storyboards to concept art to interviews with director Yoshiaki Kawajiri and key animators Kazuto Nakazawa & Group TAC; if you’re even remotely interested in learning about howNinja Scroll was made then you’ll find something to enjoy here (I know I certainly did!).
